Dental Implants
FAQ
Have questions about dental implants? You’re not alone! Dental implants are becoming increasingly popular as an option for patients to replace missing or compromised teeth. That’s why we have put together this list of some of the most common questions we get about dental implants and our answers to them.
What exactly are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium, which can be used to replace missing natural teeth. They stabilize and support the jawbone by replacing its root structure.
How long will the procedure take?
In most cases, multiple dental implants can be placed during a single appointment. Afterwards, though, it may take several months for implants to settle into place and fuse with the jawbone before a crown can be attached.
Will I have a gap between my teeth during the healing process?
No, a temporary tooth prosthetic will fill the gap. If you do not receive a dental crown immediately, we will make a temporary one for you until the permanent one is ready.
How long will implants last?
As long as you take care of them, they will feel and act like normal teeth and can last for a lifetime. But if you neglect your dental implants, they will not last as long. It is essential to brush and floss regularly and see your dentist for regular checkups.
Will the procedure be painful?
Our patients report minimal discomfort, if any at all, and no swelling. We can provide general anesthesia for those patients who would like to be more comfortable during their procedure.
How much does an implant cost?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on how many you receive, the type of prosthetic used, and the condition of your jawbone and teeth. It is often less than that associated with permanent bridgework.
Why are implants expensive?
The process involves three specialists—a surgeon, a restorative dentist, and a lab technician. Each implant is customized to your specifications, with great attention paid to each patient’s unique needs.
Does my insurance cover dental implants?
Dental implant coverage is becoming standard among more and more insurance companies, and our team can help you file claims.
